Based on the Ohio Achievement Testing, East was named an Effective School. We are well on our way to meeting our goal of becoming an Excellent rated building as we were able to increase our passage rate from 2 out of 7 tests in 05/06 to 6 out of 9 tests last year.
We have a wonderful bookroom of leveled guided reading books for our teachers to use in the classroom to ensure our students are instructed at their individual reading levels.
We were able to hire a literacy coach who began working with our teachers for the 07/08 school year. This position provides professional development to our staff along with best practice instruction for our students.
Implemented the color wheel school-wide behavior plan. Also offered incentive field trips to those students who had exemplary behavior, classroom homework routines and attendance.
Introduced new textbook series for Social Studies and Science, as well as upgraded to the most recent Everyday Math curriculum.
Provided reading/math intervention through the use of our Title I funds.
Right to Read Week included several activities including visiting authors and Family Reading Night.
The East PTO was very active by supporting several activities including the Haunted Forest, Breakfast with Santa, Spring Carnival, Book Fair and providing snow cones for Field Day.
East has had an Elementary Student Council with grades 3-5 since 2001.
All students in grades 1-5 get to participate in a musical stage performance during the year. Fifth grade students have the opportunity to participate in band while fourth grade students learn to play recorders.
