HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A WONDERFUL SUMMER!

The first day of school is Weds. August 27th.

We will be hosting an Open House on Monday, August 25 from 6-7 pm. Fifth grade band parents will have a meeting that evening at 5:30.

This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce your student and yourself to their new teacher. Your student can visit his/her classroom so some of the first day jitters will be resolved.

The building office will re-open on Monday, August 4th from 9 am - 3 pm.

If you are new to the area and need to get a student enrolled, please visit the building office to get the necessary paperwork completed. We look forward to meeting you!

Staff additions and changes for the 08-09 school year:

Tammy Sawmiller will be new fifth grade teacher.

Sarah Ramge will be new third grade teacher.

Amanda Bindel will be new preschool teacher.

Lisa Hayer will be teaching fifth grade.

Jen Barnett will be teaching fourth grade language arts.

Darlene Schnipke will be teaching fourth grade social studies and science.

ALL ABOUT EAST ELEMENTARY

Some highlights from the 2007-08 school year:

Based on the Ohio Achievement Testing, East was named an Effective School. We are still awaiting final results on how many state indicators we met. Our staff and students did a wonderful job again this year.

We have a wonderful bookroom of leveled guided reading books for our teachers to use in the classroom to ensure our students are instructed at their individual reading levels.

Again offered incentive field trips to those students who had exemplary behavior, classroom homework routines and attendance.

Provided reading/math intervention through the use of our Title I funds.

Right to Read Week included several activities including visiting authors and Family Reading Night.

The East PTO was very active by supporting several activities including the Haunted Forest, Spring Carnival, Book Fair and providing snow cones for Field Day. The PTO meets the first Tuesday evening of each month.

East has had an Elementary Student Council with grades 3-5 since 2001.

All students in grades 1-5 get to participate in a musical stage performance during the year. Fifth grade students have the opportunity to participate in band while fourth grade students learn to play recorders.

GOALS FOR 2008-2009

To become an Excellent rated building.

To continue to help children become successful readers and writers through the implementation of the Literacy Collaborative framework.

To continue strong and positive relationships with students, parents and community members.
