{John Schiller} Superintendent's Message
By John Schiller
WELCOME BACK!
The 2009/10 school year is here. We know there will be many challenges that lie ahead, but we look forward to meeting these challenges. To those of you who are new to the Buckeye Valley School System, we encourage you to get involved with your student's education. If you have a question, please do not hesitate to call the building principal. Normally your questions can be answered at that level. Sometimes a call to me is in order. If so, please call me. We pride ourselves in being small enough that we can respond to parents' concerns.
As we look forward to the coming year, we will be concentrating on the following:
1. Achieve all 26 benchmarks on the State tests in 2010
2. Cut back on some of our spending as the recession is finally starting to affect us
3. Renovation of the high school should begin next Spring
4. Keep our community informed on what is going on at Buckeye Valley
I hope all of you have a great 2009/10 school year!
Sincerely,
John Schiller, Superintendent

This form may be downloaded here and is also available at each Board meeting. Two times for public participation are usually scheduled during each Board meeting, one for items on the agenda (toward the start of each meeting) and another one for items not on the agenda (at the close of each meeting).

The Buckeye Valley Local Schools Finance Committee was formed in April 2004 in an effort "to promote understanding of the finances of the Buckeye Valley Local School District as it strives to provide an excellent education for its children while remaining fiscally responsible." The goals of the committee are:
To educate ourselves regarding Buckeye Valley School District Finances To share financial information with residents of the community To report and communicate financial facts with the Board of Education
The Board of Education remains the decision-makers regarding finances. The committee has been meeting on a regular basis and plans to continue to meet, with updates given to the public at the regular board meetings.
Five Year Financial Forecast Please remember that a forecast is somewhat like a painting of the future, which is based upon a snap shot of today that has been adjusted to reflect all known activities of the future along with certain assumptions and predictions of what may happen. In other words, it is a living document that becomes outdated once any additional information has come to light, which may introduce new known events or changes in assumptions for the future. As such, the five-year forecast is a good planning tool at best and will change periodically as updated information becomes available. School districts are encouraged to update their forecasts with the Ohio Department of Education when events take place that will significantly change their forecast.
Also remember that the numbers themselves tell only a small part of the story in financial forecasting. For the numbers to be meaningful, the reader must review and consider the Notes to the Financial Forecast before drawing conclusions or using the data as a basis of other calculations.
Since the preparation of a meaningful five-year forecast is as much of an art as it is a science, and considering all of the intricacies of the information being presented by each district, it is recommended that you contact the Treasurer/Chief Fiscal Officer of the individual districts with your questions.
